PLANT MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

Job Title: Plant Maintenance Engineer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following, other duties may be assigned
  • Lead the site Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure for multiple shifts.
  • Manage the staff, processes and activities for maintaining all plant machinery, equipment and other physical assets to ensure safe, continual and efficient operation. Provide training and continuous development on all maintenance personnel.
  • Manage the upkeep of all manufacturing assets and facility, parts inventory, monitoring purchase orders, invoice approvals, while managing the maintenance budget and resources.
  • Manage the process of the introduction of new machinery, plant and equipment from drawing up the specification, to managing suppliers through to full installation in collaboration with all relevant parties.
  • Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, mean time between failure and downtime reduction, and manage and implement improvement plans, driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
  • Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures while also mentoring and leading the department.
  • Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.
  • Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensure full preventive maintenance is carried out, plan on missed maintenance activities and lead the team to deliver effectively.
  • Adhere to daily and weekly checks to ensure smooth operation of site.
  • Audit and ensure compliance of the engineering data systems.
  • Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken.
  • Manage systems and equipment data storage and maintain high levels of standards and accuracy.
  • Manage the process of disposal of obsolete machinery, plant and equipment from gaining agreement to write off to physically removing it and its safe and lawful disposal.
  • Develop and maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions.
  • Produce written reports and make presentations.
  • Undertake continuous training and development.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization.
  • Provide technical expertise to the Team.
  • Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department.
  • Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirements.
  • Ensure the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well being of staff and visitors.
Manager Responsibilities: Manages Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance/Electrical Technicians. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out Manager responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five (5) years of Operations Management in a manufacturing environment.
Safety Management and Risk Management experience preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of MS Products; Word and Excel.
Availability: The Manager may be called in at any time during the night or weekends to assist with problems. Overtime as needed for critical equipment repair.
